How to Recover Deleted Snapchat Memories

Snapchat introduced the Snapchat Memories feature in 2016, which gives users the ability to save snaps they take through the app. After saving a snap you have taken, they are automatically saved to Memories by default (which you can also change to either Camera Roll only or Memories & Camera Roll).

If you have chosen the option to save your snaps in Memories, you can easily access them by tapping on the small cards icon on the camera screen. Since Snapchat Memories also have an option to delete them, if you have deleted one or more snaps from the Memories and are looking on the internet for the steps to restore them, we have got you covered. In this article, we will tell you how you can recover deleted Snapchat memories.

How to Recover Deleted Snapchat Memories [By Downloading Your Data]

If the Smart Backup feature is enabled on the app, you can easily restore your Snapchat memories by downloading your data. For those unfamiliar, you can turn on the Smart Backup option by going to Settings > Memories > Enabling the checkbox for Smart Backup. Let’s take a look at how to recover memories by downloading the data:

Step 1: Open the Snapchat app on your device.

Step 2: Click on your Bitmoji at the top-left corner, then tap on the gear icon from the top-right side.

Step 3: Scroll down to the bottom and tap on My Data.

Step 4: Now, you will have to select the data you want to download. Here, make sure to enable the toggle for the Include your Memories, Chat Media and Shared Stories option. Also, the Memories and Other Media.

Step 5: After enabling the toggle, tap Next.

Step 6: Choose a date range and enter your email, then tap Submit.

Step 7: Now, you will have to wait for some time to get an email from the Snapchat team with a link to download your data.

Step 8: After receiving the email, open it in a browser.

Step 9: Click on See Exports and tap Download.

Once the file is downloaded, extract it and find your Snapchat Memories in it.

If you have not enabled the Smart Backup option, it means your Snapchat Memories are not backed up. In this scenario, restoring the Memories is not possible.

How to Recover Deleted Snapchat Memories [From Gallery]

If you have previously chosen to save the Snapchat Memories to the Camera Roll, you can also find the Memories in your phone’s gallery even if you have deleted them from the Memories section on the app. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Open the Photos app on your iPhone or Gallery app on an Android device.

Step 2: Scroll through the photos, and you will surely find them.

If you have not chosen to save the Memories to your phone’s gallery, enable it right now by following the simple steps.

So, these are the steps that you can follow to restore your deleted Snapchat Memories. If you have enabled the settings to save memories to your camera roll, you can easily get the Memories you have deleted on the Snapchat app.

However, if you are sure that you have saved snaps to memories but have not deleted any and are still not able to locate them under the Memories section, it indicates two things. First, you have chosen to save the memories to Camera Roll only. In this case, you will find them in the Photos or Gallery app on your phone.

If this is not the case, you need to clear the cache of Snapchat, as it might be the reason why you are unable to locate the Memories you have saved recently. To clear the cache, just open the app and tap on your Bitmoji. Click on the gear icon to visit the settings page and find the Clear Cache option under Account Options. Once you find it, tap on it and confirm the action to clear the cache.

After doing this, you should see the Snapchat Memories on the app. If not, try to update the app, as there might be some bugs in the version you are that the company has fixed in the latest one.
