Late-night gaming sessions are fun because you can unwind and play with your friends at the end of the day. But this is also the time when others prefer not to be disturbed, so you might want to avoid playing games without headphones or earphones. Since most users own AirPods nowadays, so if you have one, you can use them with your gaming console.

While connecting wireless or wired headphones to a Phone or PC is quite easy, the same can not be said about an Xbox console. So, how do you connect your wireless headphones or AirPods to an Xbox console?

QUICK ANSWER

You can connect your AirPods to Xbox console in three ways. I prefer connecting AirPods directly to a display device (connected to Xbox) like Smart TV or Smart Monitor using Bluetooth. Other options are to use the Android/iOS device with Remote Play function, and using Bluetooth adapter on Xbox controller.

How To Connect AirPods To A Xbox Console

The Xbox by default does not let you connect Bluetooth headsets or earphones directly to it except for a few select compatible headsets. So what is the alternate solution? Using adapters? Yes. But, you can follow two more alternate methods.

The Easiest Method

Now, almost every Smart TV and Smart Monitors comes with Bluetooth Capabilities. This means you can connect AirPods directly to your TV or Monitor to which your Xbox is connected. Connecting a bluetooth device to a display device varies by brand. Here is how it works using the example of Samsung TV.

  1. Make sure your Xbox console is connected to your TV and the TV is On.
  2. Bring the AirPods case near the TV, and open the lid of the case.
  3. While the lid is open, long press the button at the back of case until the status light flashes White.
  4. Now on your TV, navigate to Settings > Sound > Sound Output.
    Connect AirPods to Xbox Console
  5. Then choose Bluetooth Speaker List. Here the TV will show nearby bluetooth audio devices.
    Connect AirPods to Xbox Console
  6. Navigate to AirPods and press the Ok button to pair both devices.

Once AirPods are paired with TV, it will also act as sound output device for Xbox console.

Using Remote Play Feature

In case your display device doesn’t have Bluetooth, you can follow this method. This is a good workaround if you are not a fan of using dongles or adapters connected to your box console. It is however a long process but works in every case. Before we dig into the steps that you need to follow, there are certain things that you need to have.

Pre-requisites:

  • Xbox gaming console
  • Apple AirPods
  • An Android or iOS Smartphone
  • Wi-Fi Network
  • The Xbox app

Connect Your AirPods To Your Smartphone

First make sure to connect your AirPods to your smartphone.

  3. A pop-up will appear showing your Apple AirPods. Tap on the connect button.
  4. You are now connected to your Apple AirPods.

For Android Smartphone:

If you are using an Android phone with your Apple AirPods, follow these steps to connect them via Bluetooth.

    Connect AirPods to Xbox Console
  4. In a few moments, you should see the AirPods under the discoverable devices section.
  5. Tap on it and your Android smartphone is now connected to your Apple AirPods.

Connect Your Xbox Console To Your Smartphone

To get all of this sorted out, make sure that you have installed the Xbox app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Now that you have installed the app, make sure to sign in with the same account used for your Xbox console. With the initial setup and signing in done, it is time to enable Remote Play.

  1. First connect your Phone and Xbox to same WiFi network.
  2. On your Xbox, go to Settings > Devices and Connection > Remote Features.
  3. Now tick the box that says Enable Remote Features.
  4. Next, launch the Xbox app on your phone.
  5. On the home screen of the app tap the Remote Play icon (icon before the bell/notification icon).
  6. It will bring some options, simply select the option that says ‘Remote Play on this Device.’
  7. If it ask to connect controller, select continue anyway and you will see your Xbox screen on your phone.

Using Bluetooth Adapter

This comes in paid method, since you have to buy a Bluetooth audio adapter or transmitter for Xbox controller. But once you have the compatible adapter, connecting AirPods for Xbox gaming is easy.

First connect the adapter to your Xbox controller. After connecting the adapter, put your AirPods into pairing mode as mentioned in the first two methods. Now press and hold the pairing button on the Adapter and wait until it connects to your AirPods. When the Adapter light stop flashing and it will glow, that means AirPods are connected.

Note: This will work for Game Audio only and may not work for party chat or group chat.

This concludes the guide on how you can connect your Apple AirPods to your Xbox Console. Yes, these are not straightforward methods, but these are the only reasonable options. What method do you use to use unsupported bluetooh headset with Xbox?
