Gemini Nano is the lightest version of Google’s large language models (LLMs), dubbed, Google Gemini. The Gemini Nano is already available for the top-tier Pixel 8 Pro. This month, Google expanded the availability of Gemini Nano to the affordable Pixel 8 phones – Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a with the June 2024 feature drop update. In this article, you can check how to enable Gemini Nano on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a.
Earlier this year, Google faced significant backlash over its decision not to bring the Gemini Nano to the Pixel 8. In response to the criticism, they reversed their decision and teased the AI capabilities for the affordable 8-series phones in March. These features are now being rolled out with the latest feature drop update.
Most LLMs require a large amount of memory for optimal performance. Therefore, your phone needs to have an ample amount of free memory to ensure a smooth user experience without degrading app performance or causing crashes. As we mentioned earlier, the model was available on the Pixel 8 Pro with 12GB RAM. Now it seems like Google is considering 8GB as a minimum requirement, available on the Pixel 8 and 8a. Therefore, you need not worry about any impact on performance.
