How to Reset Samsung Galaxy Watch (Soft and Hard Reset)

The Samsung Galaxy Watch series is popular among smartwatch users for its amazing performance and features. However, as with every tech device these days, longer use can start to create some problems. To resolve these issues, sometimes you have to reset your device.

If you are having issues with your Galaxy Watch and have tried all the solutions but nothing worked, then a reset can help fix the issue. Resetting your watch is not only to fix problems; you will also need to reset it in different situations, such as selling your watch, switching to a new watch, or giving it to a family member, etc.

Resetting the watch reverts everything related to the software to the factory settings, similar to a brand-new watch. This means the performance of the OS also returns to its original state. One thing to note is that you may still see reduced performance in areas like battery life because it depends on the hardware as well.

Soft Reset and Hard Rest

If you can access your Watch Settings directly from watch or the wearable app, you can use the Reset option in Settings for Soft Reset.

But what if your Watch is stuck in bootloop, and can not access Reset option in Settings, you can do Hard Reset through stock recovery. Hard Reset is also known as Factory Reset.

How to Reset Galaxy Watch without Phone

It’s not necessary to have both a Watch and Phone connected to reset the Watch. The process is quite simple. However, the automatic backup will not trigger before the reset if the phone is not connected, so make sure you have the latest backup. Make sure your Watch has at least 30% to avoid any problems. Now, let’s see the steps.

  1. Open Settings on your Galaxy Watch.
  2. Scroll down and open General.
  3. Under General you will see Reset option at the bottom. Tap on it.
  4. It will show warning and what will happen if your Reset your phone. But you already know about it, so tap on the Reset button to initiate the reset.

Now all you have to do is wait for the Reset to complete. Once done, your Watch will restart, and you will be able to Restore backup. For restore you can follow the on-screen instruction on your watch during the setup.

How to Reset Galaxy Watch with Phone

If you have your phone and your Galaxy Watch, Resetting the watch is easier. It’s because the Phone has bigger screen, that makes controlling and accessing Watch settings quite easy. However for this, make sure your Watch and Phone connected. Also when you reset with this method, a backup will be created automatically.

  1. Launch Galaxy Wearable app on your Phone.
  2. Navigate to Watch Settings > General.

  3. Now select the Reset option which will warn that it will delete all data and the device will be deleted from Find My.
  4. Tap on the Reset for confirmation, and your Galaxy Watch will reset.

After reset, you can connect your phone again and restore your data on your Galaxy Watch.

How to Hard Reset Samsung Galaxy Watch

In case your Galaxy Watch is rebooting continuously, not giving you the time to access Settings and Reset your Watch, you still have one option which is by using Stock Recovery. Yes, just like phone, Galaxy Watches also come with Stock Recover with various options including Reset.

  1. To boot into Recovery Mode, first press and hold Home and Back keys on your Galaxy Watch.

  2. When you see Samsung Rebooting……. screen, release both buttons, and continuously press Home button until it boot into Reboot Mode screen.
  3. In the Reboot Mode, press Home button to navigate between options. Go to Recovery option. Press and Hold the Home button, and release when the screen goes black.

  4. Now wait until your Watch boot into Recovery Mode.
  5. Once you see the Recovery Mode, use Back button to reach Wipe data/Factory Reset option. Then press Home button to initiate the Factory Reset.

  6. If you get a confirmation page, choose Factory Reset again with Back button and select with Home button.
  7. Wait for the Reset process and then your Watch will reboot to system automatically.

Now you can restore your backup during the setup if you want to get back your data. So these are the ways you can follow to reset your Galaxy Watch.
